Twins Could Clinch AL Central As Early As Tuesday

By this time tomorrow, the Minnesota Twins’ 2010 American League Central title could be official.

Minnesota’s 9-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians, coupled with the Chicago White Sox losing 3-0 to the Oakland Athletics, has given the Twins an 11-game division lead with 12 games remaining for each team. Minnesota’s magic number is down to two. No other team in Major League Baseball currently has a magic number of less than six.

Tomorrow’s games will see the Indians send Fausto Carmona (12-14) to the mound against Scott Baker (12-9) at Target Field, while out in Oakland the match-up will be Mark Buehrle (12-11) taking the hill for Chicago, while the Athletics will counter with Trevor Cahill (16-7). Since the other game is out on the west coast, we won’t know until later whether or not the Twins have clinched.
