Gophers Hockey: Saturday Night Notes And Stats

Notes:
-Despite being snake bitten at times, Sacred Heart coach C.J. Marottolo was happy with the trip to Mariucci, calling it a “tremendous opportunity.” The Pioneers, who averaged 384 people last season, play in Atlantic Hockey and are used to crowds 1/10th the size of the Gophers.

-Coach Lucia stated that he talked to players, specifically, sophomore Erik Haula, about shooting the puck more. It seemed to pay off as Haula has scored three goals this weekend after only having six as a freshman.

-4 of the 7 freshmen scored their first collegiate goal this weekend while another, Nate Schmidt, had 3 assists

-The Warning – Haula – Hansen line scored 8 points tonight.

-When asked about whether or not he realized the Sacred Heart goaltender did not have his stick, Haula admitted he did not.

-Seth Helgeson was shaken up in the first period and needed help to get off the ice; however he returned a couple shifts later.

Stats:
-Jake Hansen, with four assists tonight and six points (1 G – 5 A) this weekend, leads the nation in scoring.

-The last time Minnesota had more than a 15 goal differential in a weekend series was in 2002 against Colgate.

-Minnesota out-shot Sacred Heart 45-20.

-Paid attendance was 7,918 but there was maybe half that inside Mariucci.
