It has been eight years since Paul Bunyan's Axe has been seen at the University of Minnesota, but after winning back the Floyd of Rosedale in their last home game and challenging Michigan State last week the Golden Gophers hope to pull a surprise and win the Axe back after a seven game losing streak to the Wisconsin Badgers. After Wisconsin easily dispatched Purdue 62-17 last week (and Purdue defeated Minnesota 45-17) The Daily Gopher knows the odds are against the Gophers, but they are still hoping for a chance:
Offensively is where the hope and excitement comes from, as the Gophers moved the ball pretty well in the second half against Nebraska, really well in the fourth quarter against Iowa, and all day long against a really good Michigan State defense.
Bucky's 5th Quarter is well aware of Wisconsin's struggles on the road, but they are confident as they prepare to cross the border into Minnesota:
"I love the Axe. It's just so impressive. It's really unique," Beau Allen said, but he hasn't had a chance to parade around the field with it."
