It comes to no surprise after losing to St. Cloud State Friday night, but the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers were knocked out of the top-ranked spot in the USCHO.com poll after being the #1 ranked team the last two weeks.
↵Merrimack, which was off last weekend, becomes the new #1 as the last unbeaten team (8-0-1) in college hockey.
↵Although they rebounded with a 5-0 win Saturday, Minnesota (11-3-0) slips to third behind the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Irish leaped past the Gophers thanks in large part to a 3-2 overtime win over #5 Boston College.
↵Two WCHA teams, Colorado College and Minnesota-Duluth, are fourth and sixth, respectively. The Bulldogs have been particularly impressive as the defending national champs are 8-0-2 since being swept by Minnesota at home.
↵In other polls, USA Today/USA Hockey have Minnesota ranked second while Inside College Hockey see the Gophers third in their power rankings behind Merrimack and Colorado College.
↵Minnesota next plays the 20th ranked Michigan State this weekend in East Lansing.
