UFC 141 Results: Brock Lesnar Retires After Getting Knocked Out By Alistair Overeem In Round 1

UFC 141's main event featured Minnesota native Brock Lesnar. Lesnar took on Dutch kickboxer Alistair Overeem in Overeem's octagon debut. Lesnar currently lives on a 47 acre ranch in Alexandria, Minnesota, is a former wrestler at University of Minnesota, and spent a short time with the Minnesota Vikings as a special teams player.

The MMA veteran nearly needed to retire after a second bout with diverticulitis in May, but was able to recover enough in order to take Friday night's fight.

Lesnar did not last very long, though, as he was smashed by Overeem in less than a round. MMA Nation has the recap:

Both fighters come out orthodox. Lesnar with a leg kick. Jab even by Lesnar. Overeem doing the stalking. Lesnar goes for a single and can't get it. Lesnar's eye appears to be bleeding. Lesnar eats a knee from Overeem. Several hard knees from Overeem landing now. Overeem fires a middle kick and it crumples Lesnar. Overeem pounces and now Lesnar is covering up. A few shots later and the referee has no choice to stop it.

With the win in his octagon debut, Overeem will take on Junior Dos Santos for the heavyweight title.

After the fight, Lesnar was interviewed inside the octagon and announced that he would be retiring from the sport. Lesnar finishes his UFC career with eight professional fights, including a heavyweight championship by beating Randy Couture in 2008. Lesnar lost his belt to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 in October 2010.
