Gopher Week: Two Chances For Goldy To Get Back On Track

New, 1 comment

Things have not gone terribly well for the Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team over the past couple of weeks. The team had managed to climb as high as number 15 in the NCAA Top 25 rankings. . .and then point guard Al Nolen got injured. And then the team dropped three consecutive games. And they've gone from a potential lock for the tournament to a possible bubble team.

But, the team has a chance to get the ship righted this week with two Big Ten conference tilts.

The first game this week will be against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Thursday night at the Barn. This will be the only match-up this year between the Gophers and the Illini, who are currently ranked at #24 in the polls with a 15-8 overall record (5-5 in the Big Ten). Tip-off for this one will take place at 8:00 PM Central time at the Barn, and will be televised on one of the ESPN family of networks.

This week's second game will see the Gophers traveling to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to do battle with Iowa on Sunday. The Hawkeyes are currently sitting with a 10-13 record, and a 3-8 mark in the Big Ten Conference. The Gophers and the Hawkeyes have done battle once this year, with Minnesota coming out on top at home by a score of 69-59 on January 16. The tip-off for this one is scheduled to be at 5:00 PM Central time, and the television coverage will be provided by the Big Ten Network.

You can also hear these games on the radio on WCCO-AM 830.
