Islanders Sign Aaron Ness

In what should not be a surprise, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that defenseman Aaron Ness has signed with the New York Islanders (who drafted him in the second round in 2008). This shouldn’t come to any surprise but his departure still leaves a hole in the blue line.

Ness said he appreciated what the Gophers coaches did for him, but he was ready to take another step.

“My dream is to play in the NHL,” Ness said, “and [signing with the Islanders] is my best opportunity to keep progressing.”

Ness, a second-round draft pick of the Islanders in 2008, said his three years as a Gopher were great.

“Everything is put on a platter for you to succeed,” Ness said. “I would have wanted to do better in the playoffs and go further, but it happens.”
