The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars came into today's Class A Basketball title game as the only undefeated high school basketball team in the state of Minnesota. When time expired at the Target Center this afternoon they, too, knew the agony of defeat.
The Jaguars had an ice-cold shooting night, and the Springfield Tigers took advantage to win the school's first ever state championship with a 70-58 triumph over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.
Jesse Kieper scored 25 points for the Tigers, and Dillon Schultz chipped in with 17, including a couple of big three pointers in the second half.
For B-B-E, they were led by Kevin Kuefler, who had a monster game with 20 points and 20 rebounds. Connor Goodwin had 12 points and 13 rebounds in a losing effort.
B-B-E hit just 27 of 80 shots, a 33.8% clip, including only hitting two of 27 attempts from behind the arc. They were also pretty bad at the free throw line, hitting only two of eleven attempts from the charity stripe. The Tigers, on the other hand, hit 20 of their 29 free throw attempts.
Congratulations to the Springfield Tigers on their first ever Minnesota State High School Basketball Championship, and congratulations to the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars on a successful season as well.
