After the New Nexus attacked Randy Orton at this year's Royal Rumble, Orton knew that if he wanted a one-on-one match with C.M. Punk at Wrestlemania XXVII, the only way to ensure that would happen would be to systematically eliminate the members of Punk's crew. Punk advised him not to do that, but that just made The Viper angry. . .and, believe me, you wouldn't like The Viper when he's angry.
In consecutive weeks, Orton took out Husky Harris, Michael McGillicutty, David Otunga, and Mason Ryan. . .all with what Bobby Heenan might have called a Greco-Roman boot to the skull. As a result, none of the members of the New Nexus will be accompanying C.M. Punk to ringside for this confrontation.
However, Punk got a bit of an equalizer this past week on Raw, as he began stalking Randy Orton's wife, going so far as to stake out Randy Orton's private bus. When Orton ran out to make sure that his wife was okay, Punk jumped him and did his best Tonya Harding impression by taking a wrench to Orton's leg. So, Orton is hobbled going into this one, but at least the numbers are even.
To be honest, I'm really not completely sure how this one is going to turn out. The conventional wisdom is that Orton is going to find a way to win. . .but I see it differently.
Prediction: Punk manages to pull out a win via some form of interference. (A returning Skip Sheffield, perhaps?)
