Nursing an ankle injury, MarQueis Gray was thought to be a possibility at wide receiver for the Gophers, but in their latest depth chart, he remains couched at quarterback.
Many looked to Minnesota's depth chart today to see where Gray would be listed, following a week where the quarterback took reps on the outside while dealing with his ankle injury. However, this idea was dashed and Gray remains co-backup with Philip Nelson on the depth chart, just released for Saturday's game against Wisconsin.
The senior quarterback threw 11 passes against Northwestern last week, completing seven of them and throwing one interception as the Gophers lost to the Wildcats 21-13.
Max Shortell is listed as the starter this week. He has completed 57.1 percent of his passes in 2012 and has thrown six touchdowns and four interceptions. However, Minnesota loses Gray's scrambling ability with another quarterback under center, as he has run for 320 yards and three touchdowns.
Offensive coordinator Mike Limegrover said the problem with Gray playing wide receiver, another option, was that the team 'can't put him at wide receiver and (have him) throw to himself.' For now, it appears Gray will remain a quarterback for Minnesota, but there's no telling how he may be used on Saturday.
