Minnesota, Minnesota State, Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State were all in action this weekend as a part of a full slate of college hockey action.
No. 4 Minnesota traveled to Vermont to face the Catamounts this past weekend looking to defend their top five national ranking. Vermont hung tight momentarily Friday, maintaining a 1-1 tie until Kyle Rau scored with just under two minutes remaining in the first period to put the Gophers on top for good, eventually winning, 5-1. Their contest Saturday was more of the same, with Minnesota imposing their will en route to a 3-1 victory.
No. 4 Minnesota moves to 9-2-2 on the season with the weekend sweep.
Minnesota State traveled to Wisconsin to play the Badgers in a weekend set, and swept the Badgers away, 4-2 and 4-2. The Mavericks improved their record 5-5-2 following the two wins.
Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State faced-off against each other, with each team claiming a split in the series. Minnesota-Duluth took game one on a third period game winning power play goal from Wade Bergman to win, 2-1. St. Cloud State won game two, 5-1, after jumping out to a quick four goal lead.
