The Minnesota Golden Gophers entered the 2012 Big Ten wrestling championships as the top team in the country, but the team itself is in third place after the first of four sessions this weekend. The Gophers are 19.5 points behind the Penn State Nittany Lions, though Minnesota still has six wrestlers who are currently undefeated and vying for individual championships.
Gophers that haven't lost thus far, and therefore will be competing in the semifinals during Saturday's second session. 125-pounder Zach Sanders, Nick Dardanes at 145, Dylan Ness at 149, 174-pounder Logan Storley, Kevin Steinhaus at 184 and heavyweight Tony Nelson will all be wrestling in the semifinals during the nightcap this evening.
Chris Dardanes, Danny Zilverberg, and brothers Cody and Sonny Yohn will all be looking to work their way back to the third place match when they begin going through wrestlebacks on Saturday night.
