Kentucky Derby 2012: I'll Have Another Aims For Triple Crown After Saturday Victory

The 2012 Kentucky Derby has crowned its 138th winner and it is I'll Have Another, who started the race at the 19th gate. This was the first win for trainer Doug O'Neill and jockey Mario Gutierrez.

I'll Have Another entered the race as a 12/1 favorite and was lost in the middle of the pack for much of the race. Bodemeister and Trinniberg dueled for most of the race, with the latter holding the edge. But then around the final 100 yards or so, I'll Have Another emerged from 7th place and kept pulling away from the competitors. Eventually, I'll Have Another caught up with and overtook Bodemeister. Dullahan made a late charge as the finish line approached, but I'll have another had a clear margin of victory:

Bodemeister took place and Dullahan finished in show.

I'll Have Another now has a chance to win the Triple Crown, but surely Bodemeister will stand in the way of that second victory in two weeks when the horses race at the Preakness Stakes.
