The fourth annual Minneapolis Marathon gets underway on Sunday, as three-time men's champ Thomas Tisell aims for his unprecedented fourth consecutive victory with a slightly updated route standing in his way.
Tisell took the inaugural race back in May of 2009 with a 2:42:57 time, and followed up in 2010 with a blazing 2:37:25. His 2:42:26 winning time last summer gave him the proverbial hat trick as a Minnesota distance runner, even if he clearly has his sights set on yet another title at this year's event.
There have been three difference women's champions in the marathon's brief history, as Jessica Pink, Anja Joela and Jessica Lovering were each been victorious with sub-3:15 times. This comes in stark contrast with the men's races, which have been dominated by one individual.
The race will officially start at 6:30 am, and will begin at The Depot in Minneapolis. The finish line and post race party will each be located at Bohemian Flats Park.
