U.S. Open 2012: Michael Thompson Is The Man To Beat So Far In First Round

Ranked No. 107 on the PGA Tour Money List, American Michael Thompson had one of the best rounds of his life on the first day of the U.S. Open. With many golfers still on the course, Thompson is the leader in the clubhouse at four-under-par.

Thompson recorded seven birdies and three bogeys during an entertaining first round. Although he has just one top-10 finish this year, Thompson currently has a three-shot lead over any golfer in the field.

As for some of the other top scores for golfers who have already finished their day, Tiger Woods and David Toms completed their round at one-under-par. Beau Hossler, Jason Bohn, Jae-Bum Park and Robert Karlsson all shot even-par for the round.

Masters winner Bubba Watson did not have a strong start, completing his round at eight-over-par.
