The 2012 London Olympics' opening ceremony was held on Friday night, meaning the real fun begins on Saturday as the actual games get underway. Those games will feature quite a few Minnesotans, too, with a few of them scheduled to begin their quest for a gold medal on the first official day of the summer games.
Quite a few Minnesota Lynx players will don Team USA's jersey when they take on Croatia at 10:45 a.m. Central Time in lovely London. For those wanting to watch Hutchinson native Lindsay Whalen and Lynx teammates Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore, the television stream will be located here.
Former Minnesota Golden Gophers' volleyball player Lindsey Berg, a two-time USA Volleyball Indoor Female Athlete of the Year, will attempt to help Team USA get off to a good start when they play South Korea at 1:50 p.m. Central Time. The game doesn't look like it'll be televised, but can be streamed online at the Olympics' website.
Megan Kalmoe is competing in the women's quadruple sculls (one of the rowing competitions) and, though her hometown is technically St. Croix, Wis., she's spent quite a bit of time in Minneapolis. The first heats began early Saturday morning (3:20 a.m.), but it's tough to tell exactly what time Kalmoe will participate so here's where to watch.
