London Olympics 2012: USA Men's Basketball Begins Quest For Another Gold Medal

The USA Men's Basketball team begins Group A play against Tony Parker's France team at 9:30 am Eastern Sunday, and the USA is 15-1 all-time in Olympic opening games (only loss: 2004 to Puerto Rico). The French, with the NBA's Nicolas Batum, Boris Diaw and Kevin Seraphin, among others, will provide a good test for the Americans.

Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves fell a bit out of favor with the coaching staff during the USA's five game exhibition schedule leading up to these Olympic games, but on paper, he's a prototypical FIBA forward with his ability to stretch the floor. He might be pressed into early duty if center Tyson Chandler continues to struggle with foul trouble.

Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, the dominant American beach volleyball duo, are also set to begin their run for a second consecutive Olympic gold Sunday at 5 pm ET against a Japanese duo.

The American Men's Volleyball team also start play against a tough Serbian squad at 11:45 am ET Sunday. The USA's first two games in group play are crucial if they hope to advance towards the medal rounds.
