As the fourth day of the 2012 Olympics comes to a close, China and the United States continue to battle for the overall medal count lead, with China edging Team USA by a single medal thanks to the seven medals the nation picked up on Wednesday.
Team USA continued to dominant in the swimming pool as the Women's 4x200 Relay Team earned Gold thanks to a come-from-behind victory. Nathan Adrian also won Gold in the Men's 100-Meter Freestyle.
In total, the United States has earned an amazing 18 medals through swimming events, which (with the exception of China) is more medals than any other nation has earned in all of the combined events in the Olympics, thus far.
However, the Chinese have also been dominant in the swimming pool, virtually owning every diving competition and added another Gold from the diving board when their men's synchronized diving team won the 3-Meter Synchronized Diving event.

- China, 30 (17 gold, 9 silver, 4 bronze)
- United States, 29 (12, 8, 9)
- Japan, 17 (2, 4, 11)
- France, 13 (5, 3, 5)
- Germany, 13 (3, 8, 2)
