On Friday, Mariana Pajon of Colombia captured the gold medal in the women's BMX final finishing the course in 37.706 seconds. The native of Medellín managed to finish in the top-3 in each heat of the event, earning the top spot in both the semifinal and final rounds.
Behind Pajon, Sarah Walker of New Zealand finished with a time of 38.133 seconds good enough to earn the silver medal, while Laura Smulders recorded a time of 38.231 seconds, earning the bronze.
Alise Post represented the United States but was eliminated in the semifinal round of heats after earning the eight seed out of 16 seeds in the opening round. The St. Cloud native finished with 18 overall points in the semifinal round, which was three points above the qualifying mark of 15 in her heat group.
