The Minnesota Twins have recalled Triple-A starter Liam Hendriks from Rochester to start Wednesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. He'll replace the demoted Nick Blackburn, who has pitched to the tune of a 7.39 ERA in 19 starts this season.
Hendriks has been solid in Triple-A, posting a 2.20 ERA with 82 strikeouts and allowing only 28 in 106 1/3 innings over 16 starts. But he's never had success in the Bigs, posting a 6.71 ERA in 12 career starts. In eight starts this season in Minnesota, he's gone 0-5 with a 7.04 ERA.
Minnesota snapped a five-game losing streak Monday night against Oakland. Starter Cole De Vries will look to keep that going tonight in Game 2 of the series. For Oakland, Brett Anderson will get his first start of the season after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
