The United Stated added another tick to their medal count, though it was only a bronze one, in the latest fencing event to come to an end. The U.S. took bronze in the Women's Team Epee on Saturday, with China besting South Korea in the finals 39-25 to get the gold. South Korea made it to the finals with a 45-36 trumping of the U.S, while China made it by beating Russia in a narrow 20-19 affair.
Minnesota native Susie Scanlan was bested twice against South Korea, surrendering five touches to Shin A Lam while only managing three of her own and giving up seven touches to Choi Injeong while managing five of her own. She did not take part in the match against Russia for the bronze medal, which the U.S. won 31-30.
She did, however, take part in the United States' quarterfinal victory over Italy which advanced them to the game against South Korea. She got four touches against Rossella Fiamingo while surrendering three touches and five touches against Nathalie Moellhausen, while surrendering three touches. Mara Navarria bested her six touches to four, but the U.S. still walked away with a 45-35 victory in that match.
