2012 U.S. Open Scores: Victoria Azarenka Survives Samantha Stosur

Top-ranked woman Victoria Azarenka of Belarus survived a tough quarterfinal match against 2011 U.S. Open champion and seventh-ranked Australian Samantha Stosur 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Azarenka dominated the opening set, converting on all three of her break opportunities and not giving up a break point despite only landing 48% of her first serves in play. Stosur dug deep and made a comeback to win the second set and force an epic third set which lasted 69 minutes. The third set tiebreak looked like it would be all Azarenka as she got out to an early 4-0 lead before Stosur came storming back to set things even at 5-5 before Azarenka closed the door with two straight points to win the match.

Azarenka will advance to the semifinals where she will take on the winner of the match between No. 3 Maria Sharapova of Russia and 11th-ranked Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli.

Tuesday's complete schedule can be found at the U.S. Open website.
