Heavy rain slowed down play at the U.S. Open on Tuesday and eventually washed out the highlighted evening matches in Flushing Meadow, NY involving American Andy Roddick and women's third-seed Maria Sharapova.
Roddick was playing No. 7 Juan Del Potro to an even 6-6 score in the first set of their fourth-round match when rain suspended play and eventually ended the night with play scheduled to resume on Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. as the second match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Sharipova will begin play on the main court as she tries to recover from an early 4-0 deficit to No. 11 Marion Bartoli when the two resume their suspended match on Wednesday morning.
No. 2 Novak Djokovic was up 2-0 in the first set of his fourth-round match against No. 18 Stanislas Wawrinka before their match was halted. The two also resume play at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
