Minnesota Lynx forward Seimone Augustus broke the franchise's career scoring record as the Lynx defeated the Los Angeles Sparks Tuesday night. Augustus scored 20 points in the game, passing Katie Smith's Lynx scoring record of 3,605 points on a second-quarter three-point shot.
Augustus is in her seventh season with the Lynx, after being drafted No. 1 overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft. She was WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2006, a three-time all-star, and won the WNBA Finals MVP Award in last year's championship series. She also played for the U.S. Olympic team, winning her second gold medal this summer in London.
Micah Moore also contributed 23 points to Minnesota's Tuesday win. The victory was the team's ninth straight, taking the Lynx's record to 22-4 and virtually guaranteeing Minnesota the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs. The Lynx next play Friday night against Atlanta.
