The Minnesota Golden Gophers women's basketball team erased the goose egg in the conference win column with a 60-55 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on the road in Madison. With the win, they move to 12-4 on the year and even in conference play with a win and loss.
The Gophers dominated on the glass, out rebounding the Badgers 44 to 29 with Rachel Banham leading the way grabbing 10 boards and chipping in nine points. The Golden Gophers were led in scoring by Micaella Riche who knocked down 14 points and nabbed eight rebounds. Kayla Hirt dropped 12 points and added six rebounds to her final line.
Tight defense from Minnesota in the second half meant just two Badgers scored in the frame with Morgan Paige and Jacki Gulczynski representing the only Badgers to get on the board. The Golden Gophers also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Badgers 24-10 in that department.
Minnesota opens their conference schedule at home next Thursday against the Ohio St. Buckeyes.
