The Associated Press Preseason Top 25 has been released, and there's few surprises. The North Carolina Tar Heels take the top spot with 62 of the 65 first-place votes, distributing the other three to Ohio State at number three (one vote) and the defending champion Connecticut at number four (two votes). The Minnesota Golden Gophers, unfortunately though expected, did not make the top 25.

Minnesota did receive votes though - or more accurately, one vote. They're on the outside looking in, as they should be since losing 13 of their next 19 games following an 11-1 start for the 2010-2011 campaign. So they're on the outside of both major polls and really, it's anyone's guess as to their honest outlook for the upcoming college basketball season. They play No. 18 Michigan on Jan. 1, but don't play another top team until Wisconsin on Feb. 9.
