Bracketology: Are The Gophers Sliding Towards The Dreaded "Bubble?"

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are in a funk, and if you look at where they could potentially be seeded in this year's NCAA Basketball Tournament, it's being reflected there as well.

Chris Dobberteam, SB Nation's resident Bracketologist, has his new NCAA tournament seedings up at Blogging the Bracket, and he has dropped the Gophers down from being a five-seed last week to a seven-seed this week.

↵

Blogging the Bracket has the Golden Gophers as the number seven seed in the Southeast Regional, which would have them playing their first and (potentially) second games in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the first round in these mock brackets, they're matched up against George Mason University, a school that you might remember from their improbable Final Four run a couple of years back. Should the Gophers get past the Patriots in that scenario, a likely second-round match-up with the Duke Blue Devils would await.

It doesn't sound like the folks at Blogging the Bracket expect the Gophers to stay where they are, though.

The Gophers have lost three games in a row, with the defeat at Indiana being particularly painful. However, Minnesota will have plenty of opportunities to improve/damage its position, as they don't have to face a lock (Ohio State, Purdue, or Wisconsin) the rest of the way.

Certainly hope that's true, because after the past couple of weeks, the Gophers could use a boost.
