The Illinois Fighting Illini managed to hang with the Kansas Jayhawks in their 2011 NCAA Tournament second round match-up, but in the end they simply couldn't overcome the Morris twins on Sunday night.
Markieff Morris had a big night with 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Jayhawks, while his twin brother Marcus Morris added 17 points and 13 rebounds to help top-seeded Kansas past the Illini by a final tally of 73-59.
The final score isn't quite indicative of how close this game was for most of the contest, and even though the Illini last held the lead in this one when the score was 5-4, they didn't get down by very many to the Jayhawks.
Mike Davis led the Illini in scoring in this one with 17, and big Mike Tisdale added 13 to go along with 11 rebounds for Illinois, whose season ends with a record of 20-14.
The Jayhawks will move on to the Sweet 16, where they'll meet one of the tournament's few remaining Cinderellas when they take on the Richmond Spiders on Friday in San Antonio.
