Gray Named Among College Football's "Most Influential" For 2011

The folks at CBS Sports are doing a countdown they have dubbed their "College Football 100." According to them, this list is their countdown of the 2011 season's "most influential players, coaches, administrators, venues, or any other related things in college football."

The folks at CBS feel that new Golden Gophers' quarterback MarQueis Gray is among those most influential folks, ranking him at number 58 on their list for the upcoming college football season.

The article points out that Gray still has quite a bit of developing to do as a quarterback. . .in his career behind center for the Gophers, he has completed just eight of twenty-three passes (and only three of seventeen if you take out a five-for-six performance against Ohio State that happened largely after the game had already been decided). They also point out some more obvious things, such as Gray's obvious athletic talent, the fact that he is very mobile with a very strong arm, and that he has been making an impact outside of the quarterback position for the Gophers for the last two seasons.

If the Jerry Kill Era is going to get off to a good start in the Twin Cities, it will be incumbent on Gray to show that he does, indeed, belong behind center. Quite frankly, I have the belief that he will acquit himself quite well as the Gophers' quarterback this season, and will make the Gophers a much larger threat than they may currently be perceived as.
