It took until an exciting overtime session, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers were just barely able to hold off Brandon Paul and the Illinois Fighting Illini to keep their heads above water in the Big 10 and stop two losses in a row.
The Gophers have now won four of their last five games, a streak they'll need to continue as they currently sit at a mediocre 4-5 record good for only eighth place in the conference. They're three games behind leaders Ohio State and face a glut of ranked competition soon as well.
The Golden Gophers face the Iowa Hawkeyes for their next test in the Big 10, and might have the advantage with Iowa coming off an absolute clobbering at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers. The game will be at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa on Wednesday at 8:30 PM ET. The Gophers dropped their last game to Iowa 64-62 during their four game losing streak to start conference play.
