2012 Big Ten football standings: Gophers drop conference opener

Minnesota lost its conference opener to the Iowa Hawkeyes, 31-13

Purdue and Michigan still have yet to play a conference game, but the rest of the league participated in their first Big Ten contests over the weekend. In the Leaders Division, Ohio State and Penn State were both victorious -- the Buckeyes topped Michigan State 17-16 in a matchup of top 25 teams. In the Legends Division, Northwestern, Iowa and Nebraska are off to 1-0 starts.

Minnesota had a rough welcome to league play, as it fell, 31-13 at Iowa. The Golden Gophers' offense managed fewer than 300 total yards.
