Set to appear before a Miami-Dade court judge on Friday, Minnesota Gophers forward Trevor Mbakwe could be facing possible jail time after an offseason arrest violated the terms of his parole as reported by Amelia Rayno of The Star Tribune.
After missing nearly the entire 2011-12 campaign due to a serious knee injury suffered in late November, the 6'8 forward was arrested over the summer and charged with a DUI in Minnesota. Mbakwe reportedly failed to pull to the side of the road after a police car responding to another incident came up behind him on the road, a fact that the team did not reveal until its official media day earlier this fall.
Already on probation in the state of Florida for a felony assault charge which he pleaded guilty to in 2009, Mbakwe's latest mishap marks his second probation violation and third separate occasion before a Miami-Dade judge. Mbakwe was sentenced to one year of probation and community service on Sept. 10 for his DUI, and very likely may not be afforded another chance to escape jail time at Friday's hearing.
