2012 BCS Standings, Week 9: Big Ten teams ranked for 1st time

Michigan is the highest-ranked Big Ten team in the BCS standings; Alabama retained the No. 1 spot.

Leon Halip

Two Big Ten teams entered the BCS standings this weekend -- No. 22 Michigan and No. 25 Wisconsin. They are the only Big Ten teams in the BCS top 25, though undefeated Ohio State would be in the mix somewhere if the Buckeyes were not ineligible for postseason play this season.

Alabama and Florida retained the top two spots in the standings, as both teams won convincingly on Saturday. The Crimson Tide took down Tennessee, 44-13, and the Gators defeated South Carolina, 44-11. The Gators are not No. 2 in either human poll, but strong standing in the computer polls has allowed them to leapfrog into the No. 2 position.

At No. 3 is Kansas State, which dismantled West Virginia on Saturday, and which also has tied its highest-ever ranking in the BCS standings. Oregon, which is No. 2 in both human polls, checks in at No. 4 in the BCS, and Notre Dame rounds out the top five.
