Minnesota Golden Gophers football coach Jerry Kill is opening all 15 of his team's spring practices to the public -- from the first day, this Thursday, to the spring game April 21 at TCF Bank Stadium -- according to Marcus Fuller of The St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Golden Gophers Athletic Director Joel Maturi talked about the decision with Fuller:
"We spoke just yesterday about last year not having a spring game," Maturi said. "We had more of a scrimmage. He's leaning toward having a more game-like atmosphere this year because he think it's best for his program and best for the fans. He's always thinking. He always wants to do what's right for his players and his team, but also what's right for those who support Gophers football. I think that's the reason why he's opened practice again."
In contrast to last season's scrimmage, Kill also plans to have a more formal spring game in order to reward the fans for supporting the team through a difficult 3-9 season last year. Here is the complete Golden Gophers spring practice schedule.
