Tubby Smith Talked To LSU About Head Coaching Position, According To Report

Tubby Smith said not along ago that he planned on receiving an extension from the Minnesota Golden Gophers, but apparently the veteran coach is still exploring his other options. The most well-known option is apparently the vacant head coaching job with the LSU Tigers.

Smith's name has popped up a few times this offseason when other jobs were being discussed, but CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman reports that that LSU has actually talked to LSU about their open position.

LSU spoke to North Texas coach Johnny Jones earlier in the week -- and also has talked to Minnesota coach Tubby Smith, sources told CBSSports.com.

Smith, 60, has spent the past five seasons at Minnesota and has a Top 25 team returning next season. It's unclear his level of interest in heading to Baton Rouge and replacing Trent Johnson, who left for TCU earlier this month.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with this, for sure.
