Former Minnesota Gophers football coach Tim Brewster is set to join coach Dan Mullen's staff at Mississippi State as the wide receivers coach, the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported Thursday.
Brewster, who was fired in his fourth season in 2010 by the University of Minnesota after a 1-6 start, had planned to be a college football analyst for CBS Sports Network this year. Mullen hired Brewster to replace receivers coach Angelo Mirando, who resigned Sunday for personal reasons.
Brewster hasn't been an assistant since 2001, when he was on Mack Brown's staff coaching tight ends at Texas. He also was an assistant at North Carolina from 1989-1997.
The hire comes less than two weeks before the start of the regular season.
