Gophers Hockey: 3 Minnesota Players Up For Hobey Baker Award

Voting for the Hobey Baker Award, which is awarded to the best player in college hockey, began this week and a number of Gopher hockey players are on the ballot.

From the Star Tribune:

Among the 77 Hobey Baker Award candidates are three from the Gophers:

* Goalie Kent Patterson, the national player of the month in October

* Forward Nick Bjugstad, the national player of the month in November

* Forward Kyle Rau, the national rookie of the month in October

To vote for any of the three Minnesota players, head to www.hobeybakeraward.com. Fan voting counts for only one percent and runs through March 4th. After that, the 77 candidates will be cut down to 10 before 3 finalists and a winner are named.

Jordan Leopold is the most recent Minnesota player to win the Hobey Baker, having done so in 2002, and the Gophers are tied with Minnesota Duluth for the most winners with four.
