The Minnesota Golden Gophers are the No. 1 team in the country in the latest top 20 from U.S. College Hockey Online. The Gophers were 2-0 on the season when the poll was compiled, though they have since suffered their first loss of the season -- a 5-3 defeat at the hands of unranked Michigan Tech.
The Gophers are coming off a Frozen Four appearance in 2012; it was the 20th time in program history that they reached the semifinals of the NCAA tournament. Minnesota did not win the national championship, though; the school's last hockey title came in 2003.
