College Hockey: Minnesota vs Wisconsin Outdoor Game One Step Closer To Reality

A rumored outdoor hockey game between Minnesota and Wisconsin at Soldier Field in Chicago next February is one step closer to reality.

From Chuck Schwartz of the Wisconsin Badgers SB Nation blog Bucky's 5th Quarter:

An update in the Wisconsin Sate Journal Friday noted that the game has tentatively shifted it's date from Saturday, February 16th, 2013 to Sunday the 17th.

Andy Baggot noted that all schools involved are currently reviewing contracts for the event.

The event is still expected to be part of a doubleheader that will include a game between CCHA rivals Miami and Notre Dame.

If confirmed, this would be the Gophers' first game since the hockey in outdoor stadium fad began in 2001 and Wisconsin's third. A rumored outdoor game against Notre Dame this past season ended up being played indoors at Mariucci Arena and other conference issues have been sticking points for other proposed Minnesota-Wisconsin games.
