On Wednesday night at their game against the San Antonio Spurs at the Target Center, the Minnesota Timberwolves surprised a local military couple with a $53,000 wedding package.
↵The Timberwolves acquired that particular wedding package as a part of what's known as "The Big Trade Up." If you've never heard of The Big Trade Up, here's a basic description of how it works.
↵↵↵The Big Trade Up is a fundraising project to support the non-profit organization Mind the Future. Starting with a No. 2 pencil, the concept is to begin trading up for items of increasing value until an item is secured that can be sold to fund 10 scholarship commitments and allow for the hiring of a full-time Executive Director. With the goal of raising $250,000, it is the hope of the Big Trade Up organizers to trade up to a house that can be refurbished by everyone involved with the Big Trade Up.
↵
Thus far, the Big Trade Up has encompassed 19 trades, including the one that the Timberwolves made to acquire the wedding package. In order to acquire that wedding package, the Timberwolves traded a $90,000 Executive Suite package. For the full list of trades, you can check out the Big Trade Up website.
↵The couple that received the wedding package was Sgt Daniel Britz of the Minnesota National Guard and his fiancee, Heather Alm. The couple resides in Cottage Grove, and plan on getting married in August of 2011. Congratulations to them on their windfall.
