Minnesota Native Devean George Wants A Role On The Timberwolves

Devean George is a Minnesota native, having been born in Minneapolis before playing his college basketball at Augsburg before enjoying an NBA career spent mostly with the Los Angeles Lakers. The veteran wing wants to end his career in the Twin Cities now, though ... one way or another.

George spoke to the Star Tribune's Jerry Zgoda on Monday and said he expects a training camp invite, but if he doesn't end up on the final roster, he'd like a role that allows to be a part of player development and mentoring.

"What better way to get advice than from somebody who has seen that movie that you're watching right now?" George said after working out at Target Center. He didn't play last season because he said he had off-the-court issues that needed attending and last played for Golden State during the 2009-10, his 11th NBA season.

It's unclear how much George could still contribute on the court, especially since he's been out of basketball for an entire season. If he's able to move into a coaching role, though, it certainly shouldn't hurt.
