Carmelo Anthony Trade: League Sources Reportedly Say Proposed Three-Way Trade 'Not Close'

There have been so many rumored Carmelo Anthony trades that it's hard to believe that anything will get completed until it actually happens. That is the case with this most recent three-way proposal involving the Timberwolves as well. ESPN reported on Saturday that the talks were progressing. Now, Chris Mannix of SI warns that the rumored deal is "not close," according to league sources.

"The package New Jersey offered was so much stronger than this," the executive said. "To me this feels like Denver trying to lure other teams to the table."

This is the part of the trade that makes me wonder how legitimate this rumor is. The package that the Nuggets were set to receive if they sent Carmelo to the Nets included Derrick Favors and multiple first round picks. While this rumored trade only includes Wilson Chandler and a single first rounder. Based on value alone, the New Jersey trade was much stronger for the Nuggets, and they weren't even willing to do that one.

Of course, there is plenty of time for this trade to mature before the trade deadline later this month.
