The 2011 NBA Draft lottery ended up with the Minnesota Timberwolves taking home the second overall pick despite the top odds following a rather disastrous 2010-11 regular season. This could of course be due to the bad luck the Wolves have had ever since entering the league, but Wolves president of basketball operations David Kahn seems to have a different opinion.
↵"This league has a habit, and I am just going to say habit, of producing some pretty incredible story lines," Kahn told the Associated Press. "Last year it was Abe Pollin's widow and this year it was a 14-year-old boy and the only thing we have in common is we have both been bar mitzvahed. We were done. I told Kevin: 'We're toast.' This is not happening for us and I was right."
↵The "14-year-old" was Nick Gilbert, son of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and survivor of the disease Neurofibromatosis, a nerve disorder that causes tumors to grow anywhere in the body at any time.
↵Whether or not the NBA Draft lottery is rigged, and there's footage dating back to 1985 that suggests it is fixed, it's probably not the best idea to throw out any sort of veiled accusations relating to it when realizing the sort of fines the league is liable to hand out.
