The Minnesota Timberwolves took down the Dallas Mavericks, 114-108, behind 21 points and nine rebounds from Nikola Pekovic on Saturday night. The win was the fourth-straight for the Timberwolves, putting them at 12-9 on the year and second in the Northwest Division.
Unfortunately for Minnesota, the team ahead of it in the standings is the hottest in the NBA. The Thunder have won 10 straight, but had the weekend off.
Elsewhere in the division, the Utah Jazz fell to the Memphis Grizzlies, 99-86, in EnergySolutions Arena on Saturday night. That loss dropped Utah to 13-12, and Denver took the opportunity to pull even with the Jazz for third in the Northwest on Sunday. The Nuggets beat the Kings, 122-97, as JaVale McGee scored 19 points in just 21 minutes of action.
The Blazers remain the only team in the division under .500, but that may not last long. Portland won its third-straight, 95-94, on a last-second three from Damian Lillard.
