NBA power rankings 2012: Timberwolves rise as Rubio returns

The Minnesota Timberwolves moved up in NBA power rankings from around the web as Ricky Rubio returned to the court.

USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves saw the return of Ricky Rubio on Saturday and had won four-straight games before losing to the Magic on Monday. As a result, they are on the rise in various NBA power rankings from around the web.

In Seth Rosenthal's power rankings at SB Nation, Minnesota comes in at No. 11, up five spots from last week. Over at ESPN, Marc Stein has the Timberwolves at No. 14, also five spots higher than their previous ranking. Stein's colleague John Hollinger may have moved on to work for the Grizzlies, but his power ranking algorithm remains in place and has Minnesota at No. 11. The Timberwolves also come in at No. 11 in John Schuhmann's power rankings at NBA.com. Matt Moore at CBS has the Timberwolves at No. 14.

Overall that gives the Timberwolves an average power ranking of 12.2. Minnesota will certainly have a chance to prove it belongs at the top of the power rankings this week with upcoming games against the Heat, Thunder, and Knicks.
