The Minnesota Timberwolves will host Maccabi Bazan Haifa, a professional team from Israel, in an exhibition game on October 16.
According to this release, Maccabi Bazan Haifa opens the season in Israel on October 8 and will then fly to the US the next day. The team will first make a stop in California to take on the Golden State Warriors.
While there aren't a lot of recognizable names on the Maccabi Bazan Haifa roster, there are a few players that college hoops buffs will know. One is South Carolina Gamecock Carlos Powell, who went undrafted in 2005 but who, according to Wikipedia, has made a name for himself overseas. Sean Williams, who is currently on the Boston Celtics roster, recently played for Maccabi Bazan Haifa as well.
Maccabi Bazan Haifa made headlines in October when it hired former Syracuse assistant Bernie Fine, whose career ended last season amid sexual abuse allegations.
