It may only last a day or so, but as of right now, the Minnesota Twins are the best team in Major League Baseball. At least, they are in terms of their record.
With the New York Yankees losing to the Tampa Bay Rays tonight, their record for the season dropped to 92-61, a .601 winning percentage. That puts them half a game behind the Twins' current mark of 92-60, good for .605. Not to be outdone, the Rays are at 91-61, .599, a game behind Minnesota for the best record. The Texas Rangers, who are all but a lock to represent the AL West in the post-season, are at 84-67, a .556 winning percentage.
The best record in the National League belongs to the Philadelphia Phillies, who are currently sporting the same record as the Yankees.
Since there is no AL Central race any more, the three-way battle for the American League's best record will be an interesting one to watch.
