Justin Morneau Plans To Report To Spring Training On February 22

In what has to be some of the best news that Twins fans have gotten during a relatively quiet off-season for the team, first baseman Justin Morneau intends to report to Spring Training with the team on February 22.

Morneau, who last saw live baseball action in Toronto on July 7 of last year, suffered a concussion when he got kneed in the head during a take-out slide attempt at second base. At the time, he was putting up MVP-caliber numbers, but didn't take another swing the rest of the year while battling the effects of post-concussion syndrome.

Morneau returned to the batting cage last week, and has started doing fielding drills, all of which he says are going well.

"I am starting to feel more confident during my workouts, as I am not going through a mental checklist of how a certain exercise feels while I am doing it, every time I try something," he said. "I am happy with the progress recently, and it has been a long winter for me, but I am excited to hopefully be back on the field with my teammates soon."

We know full well that Twins fans are very much looking forward to seeing the return of Justin Morneau to the team's lineup. After all, this team won 94 games last season while missing an MVP candidate like Morneau for most of the season. . .getting him back can only help Minnesota's cause.
