Thanks to the miracle of Twitter, Darren Wolfson has informed us of an unusual lineup change for Twins manager Ron Gardenhire as the Twins attempt to take their weekend series against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon at Target Field.
Today's lineup will see Michael Cuddyer playing at second base for the Twins. Cuddyer has seen time at second base twice in the last two seasons for the Twins. . .he lined up at second in a 5-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on August 26, 2009, and again in a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on May 31 of last season. Prior to that, you have to go back to 2005 to find the last time Cuddyer played second base regularly. . .and by "regularly," I mean that he played the position in ten games that season.
The Twins lineup for today will look like this:
Denard Span, center field
Joe Mauer, catcher
Justin Morneau, first base
Jim Thome, designated hitter
Delmon Young, left field
Jason Kubel, right field
Michael Cuddyer, second base
Danny Valencia, third base
Alexi Casilla, shortstop
Scott Baker will be on the mound this afternoon for the Twins, as they attempt to take this series from the Oakland Athletics. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM Central time at Target Field.
