The hits just keep on coming for the Minnesota Twins, as they've placed all-everything catcher Joe Mauer on the 15-day disabled list with weakness in his legs.
↵Mauer had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee during the off-season, and had an extremely light workload during the spring in an effort to keep the stress on his legs to a minimum. Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire said that Mauer got dinged up while blocking a lot of pitches from Francisco Liriano, but he didn't specify which game that would have been in.
↵Steve Holm has been called up from the Twins' AAA affiliate in Rochester, and will share the catching duties with Drew Butera in Mauer's absence.
↵Mauer had been hitting .235 to this point in the season with four RBI, and generally has just looked incredibly rusty and trying to get his swing in tune. We wish him a very speedy recovery. . .the Twins' offense was awful enough with him in the lineup, and it could get kind of ugly with him on the bench.
